About
While I have been fascinated by cameras since childhood, I began photographing seriously after graduating from Yale Law School -- probably as a reaction against three years of relentlessly left-brain activity.  Beginning with a hand-me-down 35mm film camera, I soon graduated to medium- and large- format film, and then to digital capture.  The work you see on this site is a combination of all these formats.

My interests include architecture, abstracts and landscapes, especially landscapes that show the effects of humans on the natural environment.   You will find some portraiture and garden photography, as well.  If you like what you see, please consider purchasing a print or checking back often, as I plan to add new material to the site as I produce it.

Probably everyone who owns a camera has some opinion about what photography is.  In my own work, it is an effort to see beyond surfaces; to make the ordinary extraordinary.  While I would not call myself religious, I do believe that the things of this world point beyond themselves to a higher reality, and that that reality can be glimpsed through a camera lens and translated to paper or the screen.  Call it structure, essence, form, or ideal -- if I can capture the characteristics of a thing that suggest this higher reality, then I have accomplished what I hoped to do.

Some of my work is held in private collections and in the permanent collection of the Arts Clayton Gallery.  It has also appeared in numerous juried shows, including Slow Exposures, the annual Newnan-Coweta Arts Association exhibit, and the inaugural Nature, Undisturbed show sponsored by the Southern Conservation Trust.  In May 2009 I put up a solo show at the Arts Clayton Gallery, where I am a regular exhibitor.
